2021
Early 2021 my mother, Sharon Rumery, told me that she had been diagnosed with lung cancer. Her positive spirit throughout out her fight was so inspirational that we created a fundraising 3 mile walk in honor of her strength. We called it Sharon's Stroll and raised over $10,000 for the cancer support network, Hair Matters. It was an amazing day.
Since then, Ma has moved on from this world but her strength and spirit lives on in all those who knew her.
2022
This year's Sharon Stroll event will benefit a very special one year old boy, Elliott, who lives here in Standish. Elliott was born with a condition which restricted his ability to breath and eat. His first 132 days were spent in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit in Boston (for the first 86 days) and then Maine Med.
I am glad to say after many return trips to Boston, Elliott is living at home and a very happy boy. His care does involve many medical supplies, feeding tubes and medication. He needs in home nursing care during the week. Elliott's next procedure will be at Maine Med for 16 days and is hopeful to have his trach removed.
100% of every dollar donated will go directly to the family to cover these expenses.
